cutter and bone links

For those interested, since I didn't have time to show
some clips of the movie and other stuff,
I'm posting some of them here.
For anyone wanting to see the film,
apart from a copy I have, it's shown once in a while
in the MGM channel.

The first is a double feature:
this is both the trailer, and a commentary of the movie by fan John Olson, also academy award nominee screenwriter for History of Violence, which he claims was influenced greatly by Cutter and Bone.
The trailer was produced when trying to pitch the movie as a murder mystery. Olson is quite the leader in promoting the movie, btw.

The movie ending for those who are curious:

I didn't get the chance to elaborate on the actors. Jeff Bridges is well-known and will also get a spot next week yet again when 'True Grit' will be presented, but the oscar should have gone to John Heard. Having failed with two consecutive movies where he was the star (also in Cat People), he moved to supporting roles in countless films and is mostly known for Home Alone, Big and some Soprano appearances.
This is his imdb page. Check any other film of him you've seen and then you can appreciate the complete difference between this role and any other he did as a co-star.

The director, Ivan Passer, talks about the movie in this interview for the Soho News, close to it's release. He also talks about an alternative ending and his ideas regarding marketing and the name. Coming from the less genre-ridden Europe, he couldn't understand why the film can't belong to two genres at once. I mentioned him very briefly, and was more interested in the screenwriter Jeffrey Allan Fiskin, who talks about the movie (and why he shoplifted the book) in this interview. (I forgot to quote his summary of the movie - "this is an hour and a half suicide note").

and the two posters for the movie:
the earlier showing another part of the attempt to label the movie as a murder -mystery
while returning to the book name

and the later understanding that the movie is a drama (and apparently people thought after seeing the poster that it's about two surgeons), came the name change to cutter's way:

the IMDB page for the movie also provides a third tag line, the worst of the three by far:

"Cutter does everything his way. Fighting. Loving. Working. Tracking down a killer".
but i couldn't find the poster for that weird thing.

Finally, and quite morbidly, the Guardian's obituary for Newton Thornton, the author of the original book.
